Way back in 1972 is where this journey began and the main bloodline of Apollodane Great Danes started with the importing of 3 harlequins and 2 fawns from England over to Australia by our mentor Ms Hildegard Schliefert. The harlequins, pictured in the online “Ancestors Album”, were Aust Ch Helmlake Dazzling Igor CD, and Aust Ch Helmlake Darling Fashion CDX, both were by Ben Eleick Vom Forellenparadies, a German import in to England.
Kempsons Venus, who broke a leg in quarantine and never saw the show ring produced some magnificent Champions. She was the daughter of Eng Ch Leesthorpill Sultan of Escheatsland, B.O.B at Crufts and from one of the oldest Harlequin Kennels in England.
Some of their very successful offspring included, Ch Hildydane Janushka, Ch Imperial Eick, Ch Hildydane Ivan The Great, Hildydane Razzmatazz and their Sydney Royal Ch Show Winning son Hildydane Lord Thor.
Then along came another unstoppable son of the French Import Obi De Terres de la Rairie, Ch Hildydane Titan King.
After that came American “huge boy” BMW Sydney, whose daughter Ch Charisma N.Y. was one of the top winning bitches from the tender age of three months later came Ch Hildydane Kalinkah, another top wining bitch from Lord Thor.
Then the magnificent German dog Darwin Von Bjorndal who is still fathering quite a few of our beautiful show and breeding stock like his lovely daughter Ch Hildydane Rika Chikita and Ch Hellfire was introduced to the kennels, who produced many top blacks and harlequins including Ch Hildydane Eternal Flame, a constant winner from sweepstakes through to the Sydney Royal.
Pictured also in the “Ancestors Album” is the magnificent German Import Darwin Von Bjorndal “BJ”, along with Ch Harlekin Hellfire and Ch Hildydane Rika Chikita at the Sydney Royal in 1996. It was then a great privileged that the stunning German Dog, Magnus Imperial was bought (also pictured ), from the famous Imperial Kennels. He and Darwin Von Bjorndal could never be exhibited in Australia because of their cropped ears.
The bloodline has been strengthened and developed to what it is today, producing first class show quality pups that have gone on to make a name for themselves around the world. Further developing these lines, by introducing some of the very best out-crossing from America, England and Europe, Apollodane Great Danes are seeing the new litters more balanced, not only in temperament, but in their overall confirmation, going on to exceeded in excellence in the show ring. Take a look through the write ups on our dogs, chart their progress and see how they are linked to some of the best Great Danes ever produced.

I am very passionate about Great Danes, I have waited many years for a beautiful blue. I feel that now is the time for me to be able to give it the full attention it deserves, and I’m so excited. I live in Ireland but hopefully you could offer me some help in finding my dream dog. Thanks so much
