Un-neutered male dogs WILL mark or spray (urinate on any and everything they can, including you) to mark territory. Plan on shampooing your furniture and carpet often. To prevent this habit from forming, neuter your dog before he reaches 6 months unless you are using him for stud.
Females will go into heat at around 6 months. This is a messy thing, and if she gets pregnant, plan on spending AT LEAST £500.00 and hours upon hours a week to raise a healthy litter puppies. If you do not intend to breed your dog, the least expensive way to go is to HAVE YOUR DOG SPAYED OR NEUTERED!
Spaying before her first heat cycle also reduces her chances of getting breast cancer by up to 80%! Some vets, sometimes offer discount programs for people who have their pet fixed and get vaccinations done there.

Just a question. I have a 9 month old male dane right now. He is being neutered in April 09 because I heard its not good to neuter a large breed dog before the age of a year. It can affect their growth and other things? Is this not true. I have been studying danes for about 5 years now and everything I read or hear seems to contradict everything else.
