Well, the day starts as usual with glorious sunshine beating down on our hill top villa, the Mediterranean sea on the horizon and the most spectacular site of all, that of our family of Great Danes waiting to have their morning feed and their first run and exercise of the day on the mountain. (by clicking on any photo, you will automatically be taken to that particular set to see more) or click on any of the “LATEST” items down on the right hand column to see what we have been up to, or just click on the rosettes on the top right to find out about our multi winning Grand Champion Zsacharias;

How very fortunate we feel to be in such a privileged position, sharing our lives with each other and having our Great Danes as wonderful companions.
Feeding starts in earnest at around 0730 hrs, always taking the Alpha male first, followed by the more dominant members in their respective pecking orders. Somehow, I always appear to be last to sit down for breakfast, so that just about sums up what my position is over the dogs (very low down the list) but we would not have it any other way, as our dogs will always come first over anything we do.

We have one person responsible for the feeding and that tends to be me. This way I and only I can monitor the food levels correctly given and eaten by the Danes. Food has been a little erratic in it’s consumption these past couple of weeks, partly due to the fact that we have two of our lovely bitches who have just come through their season, which means the dogs have had other things on their mind, plus the temperatures and weather conditions have been hitting well in to the high 30c, which again is enough to put anybody off food. We are at the end of the bitches season now and hopefully a return back to normal eating habits.

All dogs now happily fed, watered, walked and exercised, it’s time for them to find their spot to settle and relax after their start to the day. The picture above is typical of the sort of morning they are about to have. All happy together and mostly out of the mid-day sun. We like to leave them to relax when the weather is hot, but in the early evening, when the sun has gone down and the temperatures more acceptable to learning conditions, we take a ride down to the harbour which is normally quite busy.

We do a few practise rounds of show work, normally atracting a little audience and then we let the dogs socialise and pose for photographs with the tourists. It’s a really good way of getting the dogs used to noise and crowds and they love all the attention. We are also very fortunate that our beautiful villa adjoins a spectacular mountain which is ideal for building stamina, building muscle and strengthening bones as we run them to the top when fully matured.

Oh!!!!!!!! I always say, when I come back, I would like for it to be as a house cat or a Great Dane. To me it just sums up the sort of life we bestow upon our animals as something we to would like to experience in afterlife (here’s hoping).

Hi my friends !
Paul your decription of the Athens show was so great, you are a good writer! I loved the part: \” Daddy, we have to won , haven´t we.\” You write so fluently, have a good sense of humour ! I can write well in Finnish, but it is so different in a foreign language , the language is much poorer! I´ll try to do my best.
Great that Zac was 2nd in the group! I didn´t understand that. I thought reserve best means the 4th in the group, so not placed! So the 2nd price is just great in a big 2 group! Teixeira had judged our Luru, the Golden Retriewer and made her the best in show veteran in Helsinki Winner show in year -99! I think that was one of my very best moments with the dog shows! That was a BIG surprise! There were about 80 veterans, hundreds of people watching and clapping their hands. She moved so lively and was so happy & beautyfull! I shouted: the winner is MY DOG!!!! I´ll never forget it. There was Saturday´s veteran winner and Sunday´s veteran winner compting in the end,it was a terrier of a FAMOUS Finnish breeder - but she lost! I think it is an honour to get a great critc from Teixeira, I have heart good things of him! Well done to you and well done for making Zac a Greek Champion at the same time.

Hello there Paul & Craig,
first: thank you for sending the link to your show in Marathon, Athens! It was marvellous to read it and my breath stopped when excitingly you were describing the placement and even I took part for you and felt this feeling you must have had when the judge cannot stop to praise your dog and finally - it was good - you had the second place for your Zac. I know really how you were feeling - of course happily positive and also a bit sad.
Also the fullbrother of my C-harlequing female \”Chardonnay\” I had sent photos to you, the harlequin male Zsiegmondy LIBERTE, still in the young class, living in Finland went place second on the big show in Helsinki 2006 where he had to compete against 48 males out of the Young Class, Open Class and Winner Class. Ha, ha, ha and the Great Champion Bastie of Zsiegmondy\’s owners too went place 3rd. Sometimes also a second place is great and Zsiegmondy was
European Junior Winner 2006 the next day.
second: you have caught me now in reading your Diary….. and I think when I have finished to read all the reports, I am perfect in reading a book in English language.
But the difference to a book is that your reports are more interesting for me, telling all about Danes and all things around where you live.
So, you not only became a Godparents recently in September, you will now be my English teacher from today.
Thank you and have a wonderful day and enjoy your sunshine there in Cyprus,
Barbara

Yes, Paul as you guessed in Athens I (Erine) WILL start with this phrase:
\”Zac is a gorgeous dog…but the \”passionate red\” suite was….Ouououou SEXYYY!!!!\” ;-D
Giannis took some Great photo’s… you’ll Love them! He will probably sent them to you tomorrow.
….so further from the breath taking suite… we should also say that it was Wonderful to meet you guys! This is the thing about dog shows… you go there and the sure thing is that you will win something…whether it is a placement or meet some really special people that worth to try to build a really good friendship!!!
Paul and Craig, we are happy that we met you and it was really interesting to meet one of your Dane’s - Zac… you don’t always see Such Quality…and presentation!
Hope that you had a good flight back to Cyprus.
Our trip back to Thessaloniki, wasn’t at all easy – though we did spent time gossiping – but the really strong rain turned our 5 hour trip into 12 hours!…. yes, this weekend we won’t forget for many reason’s!…
Never the less, we are looking forward to see you in Poznan – Poland at the WDS! So, inform us what your plans are regarding this trip and if we can help in anyway.
Visited your site: so much information is provided that for sure need to go through it again! It is though, a very unique - interesting site, very well build, that you love visiting it again to read all the news!

I wanted to thank you for sending the link to your website. It was a pleasure to view your site and see pictures of you and your beautiful family. I had to laugh when I read about your take on living in paradise and all your guests. We not only live in beautiful Maui but have a wonderful home in Las Vegas. I guess I’m not the only dane breeder that lives in paradise, hahaha! I have a good friend that lives in Germany that is also a harlequin breeder. I was considering driving with her from Hamburg to Milan to breed her bitch to a harlequin stud dog in Milan this spring. After seeing the photos and pedigrees of your danes I will forward your site to her. I think she may be interested in reviewing your stud dogs. Her name is Verena Rottman. On another note… Richard and I will be traveling to Europe and the Mediterranean hopefully in the next six months. If we get to Cyprus we would enjoy meeting you. Good luck with your continued success in your breeding program. You are doing it right!

Good Morning to all,
Just been visiting the site again, there is so much to see and read that It really is becoming my number one morning coffee reading break…I just love it; We haven\’t been up to Pafos at all lately, it\’s our busy season at the Leisure club and we have been left with no staff members, (all on vacation or just too lazy to bother), so I basically have to stay 14 hours a day running the place, pretty hectic really, but we will be up in the near future, i\’ll let you know when. In the meantime keep up with your amazing work, it\’s all just so exiting to have so many stunning Danes in one place.
We were considering going to poland, we\’ll see. But we have one of our bitches showing in Crufts next year and we are really looking forward to that…
Take care for now and love to all of you stellaxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Paul
Thanks for the link. When I get a chance I will add it to my links page but at present I am spending too much time on the database. Do you have an extended pedigree of Darrius. I have a few gaps.
